KitchenAid KEBS179B Oven: Element and Sensor Service

A KEBS179B, sold as the KEBS179BSS, is a built-in electric oven that has left production. In most homes it is framed in a wall cabinet, and its elements have by now cycled on and off more times than anyone can count.
Elements wear in a fairly predictable way. A bake element develops a blister, then a break, and the oven either loses heat from the bottom or stops heating entirely. We look at it with the cavity empty and cold, then power it up and watch the glow.
The temperature sensor, the hinges and the lock motor are tested during the same visit. We quote the price in writing before beginning, and our repair is warranted for 30 days. Tell us whether the oven struggles at low or high temperatures, which narrows the search for a worn part.
You may see a blister, a thin spot or a visible break in the metal. Sometimes it looks fine but never glows, in which case we measure it with a meter.
The sensor may have drifted and is reporting the wrong cavity temperature to the control. We compare it with a reference thermometer and replace the sensor if it is out of range.
We release the lock mechanism carefully, then test the lock motor and switch. If either does not move properly, we replace it so the door opens normally.
