KitchenAid KRFC300E Start Device Repair

The KRFC300E comes in three finish suffixes, KRFC300EBS, KRFC300ESS and KRFC300EWH, but they share the same working parts. If one of them hums for a moment and shuts off, the start device has most likely failed and the overload protector is doing its job. We test the device first.
A control board that has aged out of service is a different matter. Because it can be the hardest part to obtain on an older model, we confirm availability before quoting and before you decide on a repair.
For temperature drift, we start with the evaporator fan. A motor that is noisy, or one that stops and leaves the fresh-food side warming while the freezer holds, is a common find. The slower cause, restricted condenser airflow, comes from lint building up on the coils. Cleaning them helps an older cabinet recover its grip. You get a written price before we start, and our repair is covered by a 30-day workmanship warranty.
The start device. We check it with a meter and test the overload protector. If the start device has failed, replacing it is far smaller than a compressor job.
The model is discontinued, and boards can be scarce. Confirming that one is obtainable keeps you from paying for a diagnosis that leads to a part nobody can supply.
Most likely the evaporator fan has stopped or gone noisy. It moves cold air into the fresh-food side. We test the motor and replace it if it drags or does not turn.
